How to measure for made-to-measure

Two numbers are all we need, the width of your pole or track, and the drop to where you want the curtain to end. Send them raw; we add every allowance for you.

Width, measure the pole, not the window

Measure your pole or track from end to end, excluding the finials (the decorative ends). That single number is your width, don't double it, don't add fullness. Our workshop cuts the fabric at roughly twice this measurement so your curtains gather beautifully.

Drop, from the top of the pole, straight down

Hook a metal tape over the pole and measure straight down to where you want the curtain to finish. Where that is, is a matter of taste:

  • Sill 1cm above the sill, crisp, kitchen-friendly
  • Below sill 15cm past the sill, the classic in bedrooms
  • Floor 1cm above the floor, clean and tailored
  • Puddle add 15–20cm, romantic, generous, very linen

Three small tips

  • Use a metal tape measure, fabric tapes stretch and lie.
  • Measure every window separately, even the ones that look identical. They rarely are.
  • Note your numbers in centimetres, and jot down which window is which.
